THE STATE GOVERNOR, PROFESSOR BEN AYADE HAS SUSPENDED THE TWENTY TWENTY-ONE CARNIVAL CALABAR OVER FEARS OF A RENEWED OUT-BREAK OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND SECURITY CHALLENGES.

GOVERNOR BEN AYADE TOOK THE DECISION AFTER A PROLONGED DEBATE AMONG HIS AIDS INCLUDING COMMISSIONERS, SPECIAL ADVISERS, SPECIAL ASSISTANTS, SPEAKER OF THE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY, COUNCIL CHAIRMEN AND SOME CRITICAL STAKEHOLDERS AT ENLARGED EXECULTIVE COUNCIL MEETING AT THE STATE EXECUTIVE CHAMBERS CALABAR.

THE SPECIAL ASSISTANT TO THE GOVERNOR ON MEDIA URSULA AGBOR WHO WAS AT THE MEETING REPORT THAT GOVERNOR AYADE CITED THE HEALTH CONCERNS OF IT’S CITIZENS ARISING FROM THE DANGERS OF THE NEW OUTBREAK OF COVID-19 VARIANT OMICRON AS WELL AS THE PREVAILING SECURITY SITUATION, ADDING THAT THE PEOPLE NEEDS TO BE ALIVE TO ENJOY CHRISTMAS AND FUTURE CARNIVALS.

FOLLOWING THE MAJORITY OF THE STAKEHOLDERS VOTE FOR THE SUSPENSION OF THE CARNIVAL CALABAR, THE PERMANENT SECRETARY, SECURITY SERVICE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE, DR. ALFRED MBOTO, THE CHIEF OF STAFF TO THE GOVERNOR MARTINS ORIM AMONG OTHERS, THANKED GOVERNOR BEN AYADE FOR NOT COMPROMISING THE LIVES AND SAFETY OF THE CITIZENS FOR THE EXCITEMENT
OF THE CARNIVAL CALABAR.
